Classification of Trucks: Light and Heavy Trucks
Trucks are divided into two main categories: light trucks and heavy trucks. The determining factors are the vehicle’s total weight and the driver’s driving license.
What is a Heavy Truck?
A heavy truck is defined as a vehicle with a total weight exceeding 3.5 tons. These vehicles are used to transport larger quantities of goods and often require a C or CE driving license depending on whether the truck is to be driven with a trailer.
Speed Limits for Heavy Trucks
Heavy trucks have specific speed limits to ensure safety on the roads:
Highway or motorway: Maximum 90 km/h.
Other road: Maximum 80 km/h.
With trailer: Maximum 80 km/h.
To ensure safety and compliance with traffic regulations, it is important to know and follow the speed limits that apply to heavy trucks. By understanding these rules, you can plan your transports more efficiently and ensure a safe journey for both drivers and other road users.
Driving License for Truck
B-Driving License for Light Truck
To drive a light truck, a B driving license is required. With this driving license, you can drive trucks with a total weight of no more than 3,500 kg.
C-Driving License for Heavy Truck
With a C driving license, you can drive heavy trucks and passenger cars without any weight limit.
How long is a semi-trailer?
The length of a semi-trailer can vary depending on the type and configuration of the vehicle. A typical semi-trailer consists of a long-distance truck and a trailer (usually between 24-25.25 meters) but some mean a vehicle consisting of a tractor unit and a trailer (usually a total of around 16.5 meters). With today’s new regulations, there are also the new so-called HCT combinations that allow vehicles as long as 34.5 meters to be driven.
How long a semi-trailer is depends on specific transport needs and applicable regulations for road transport. Semi-trailers are often used to transport large quantities of goods over long distances, and their size makes them ideal for efficient and cost-effective transports.
To get a better idea of the exact length of the semi-trailer you need to rent, we recommend that you contact us directly for detailed information and advice.

Step-by-step guide to emptying a driver card
-
Use the right equipment: To empty or copy a digital tachograph, you need a company card and a special reading unit (often called a “stick” in everyday speech). This gives you access to the data.
-
Insert the card and stick: Start by inserting your company card into the tachograph and then the stick. The transfer then starts automatically, the display gives you further instructions.
-
Follow the instructions: Follow the instructions on the tachograph screen to transfer all data to your device. Make sure everything is copied correctly.
-
Save the information securely: Once the data has been transferred, make sure to save it in a safe place, such as an external hard drive or in the cloud. This is important for both security and legal requirements.
What is the carrier’s responsibility?
The carrier has a great responsibility when it comes to handling the tachograph. Firstly, data from the tachograph must be copied at least every 28 days to meet the statutory requirements. Secondly, data must be saved for at least one year and be available in the event of an inspection by the authorities. The carrier must also ensure that drivers comply with the rules that apply to driving and rest times and that the vehicle’s tachograph is in good condition and correctly calibrated.
